Orchidland's ability to help individual lot owners with various complaints is limited.  OLCA may be able to point you in
the right direction in handling a problem, but you are pretty much on your own.

Home burglary

(largely a byproduct of the drug problem) is probably the most rampant crime in Orchidland.

Some suggestions:

  • Lock up your larger valuables such as tools and generators in a secure shed or container.
  • Keep valuables such as jewelry and cash in a safe.
  • Install an alarm system.
  • Own a dog or two.
  • If gone overnight, hire a reputable house sitter.
  • Report suspicious activity.

Firing of guns

is not permitted in Orchidland. If you hear shots, call 911 and report it to U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Michael Saenz - 993-8138. If you hear shots again, call again and again and again. Maybe something will happen.

Vandalism

for some unknown reason people get a kick out of destroying our street signs and traffic signs.  In fact, they get knocked down faster than we can replace them. Not only does it make our roads more dangerous,it is your money that pays for it. If you see it happening try to get a license number or description. Call 911 and the Orchidland hotline: 934-7738

Drugs

Drugs, particularly methamphetamine (ice), is a problem in Orchidland. There are a number of "ice houses" in our community where the drug is used and perhaps manufactured. It is dealt openly is several places. To date, efforts to get the police to do anything about it has met with little success.

The presence of drugs has a number of adverse effects. First, the unsavory characters associated with the scene are almost certainly responsible for much of the home burglary that occurs. Secondly, cars going to and from their "meet" or "fix" drive recklessly at absolutely insane speeds. Other issues include our kids being exposed to drugs, fire and explosions (yes, it has happened here) and environmental damage from the manufacturing process.

If you see or suspect any sort of drug activity call:
Police 911 (emergency)
Police 935-3311 (non-emergency)
Hawaii State Drug Nuisance Abatement 1-(800) 966-6384
County Prosecutor's Office - Mitch Roth - 934-3508 (info associated with drug houses)

It is important to keep calling the police and other authorities even if it sees that it doesn't do any good. With the police department's limited resources, it is a case of the squeaky wheel getting the grease.

A note to landlords. If your rental property is being used for drugs, you stand a good chance of losing it through the state's 'asset forfeiture' process. If you are aware of a drug problem on your property, do something about it!

Roads

Send an email directly to Road Committee (heyroadguy@orchidland.org) or call 946-3143.  Describe the location and the problem.  It will be referred to the Road Maintenance Committee or the Road Manager as appropriate.

Sink holes or 'pukas' sometimes develop in the middle of a road, and are quite dangerous.  If you see one, please be persistent in reporting it.
